Submit services via web

Posted by Vladimir Grigor on Nov 24, 2010 in News

Hi all,

I have two news: new page to add services to RmbrNmbr and new design for the blog(creator of the theme).

New design for the blog was easy – as easy as just selecting a different theme in WordPress.  I just got bored with previous dark theme, even though it was cool and feature-packed. Probably I couldn’t look on the dark theme when it is rather dark outside here in Finland :)

The page to add services took a while to make. It features suggest-as-you-type for location field, tags and captcha. :( Yes, I had to add it to prevent abuse. But the captcha is rather simple arithmetic one.

So please submit some services and comment.

RmbrNmbr made it as a semi-finalist in SmartCamp Denmark!

Posted by Vladimir Grigor on Oct 1, 2010 in News

A couple of days ago RmbrNmbr was confirmed reaching a semi-finalist level for SmartCamp Denmark.

SmartCamp is an initiative of IBM :

… is an exclusive global program bringing together entrepreneurs, investors and experienced mentors who want to build a Smarter Planet.

SmartCamp provides access to world-class advisors plus a direct route to seed and venture capital.

The objective of the program is help companies build an ‘investor ready’ commercial proposition in order to secure funding. The most appropriate companies will get a 3 month IBM mentorship program.

Some of our partners are offering their own forms of recognition independent of IBM to organisations that impress them in their areas of interest.
Last year 4 of 5 companies received investment offers or funding from our partners.

So let’s see where it could lead to.

And yes, remember to check the first video about RmbrNmbr if you have not done so.

RmbrNmbr runs also on iPhone 3G!

Posted by Vladimir Grigor on Sep 11, 2010 in News

Updated versions of RmbrNmbr and RmbrNmbr+ that run on iPhone 3G are available from App Store!

Besides of that minor compatibility fix, the update also includes running web-launchers into a built-in browser. So you will not have to leave the application to visit Internet sites. Of course, there is a way to open the link in Safari too.

Bug: RmbrNmbr ver. 0.96 doen’t run on iPhone 3G

Posted by Vladimir Grigor on Sep 5, 2010 in Confirmed Bugs, News

Well, the application version 0.96 does not run on iPhone 3G, even though it runs perfectly on iPhone 4. I learnt that after the app was approved for distribution by iTunes AppStore. Dooh!

Reason appears to be tricky configuration of three20 framework which is used for the project. Coming version should fix that issue.

Motivation for RmbrNmbr

Posted by Vladimir Grigor on Sep 4, 2010 in News

So why was RmbrNmbr started?

To refresh, RmbrNmbr is an iPhone application helping you find mobile services around.

The idea to create such service came as Vladimir wanted to cut some hustle and time while paying for metro in Helsinki by SMS. Yes, there is a lot of info what text to send to which number but only when you are at the station. So please reach the metro station, type magic symbols and send them to service number AND wait until you receive the ticket itself. There should be a better way and he imagined an app that would allow sending such ticket request in a convenient way –  something like SMS templates for iPhone. This is one part of the idea.

But transportation tickets are not the only services available through SMS, right? The only problem is to find them. Later he learnt that the fastest way to order a taxi is by SMS! You need to send your address to the service number and Voila taxi is delivered to your place. No need to listen to music while on the queue of the call center. (Btw, the need to type your current address has led to new version with benefits – RmbrNmbr+). So the natural extension is the ability to find such services that you can use by SMS. This is the other part.

So simply put, we want to have and use such service ourselves  - that is the motivation behind RmbrNmbr.
